Energy Rebates and Incentive Programs for Business have Expanded! |
Southern California Gas Company (The Gas Company) has expanded its energy-efficiency programs for business customers by allowing more customers to qualify and by increasing the benefits on some programs, which offer as much as $300,000 in rebates and incentives per customer per year.
For the first time, The Gas Company’s energy-efficiency programs are also open to its largest business customers consuming the greatest amount of natural gas.
The Gas Company’s new Energy-Efficiency Grant Program provides up to $300,000 per customer per year for eligible large business customers that complete custom energy-efficiency projects saving at least 250,000 therms of natural gas—enough energy to serve about 500 homes for a year.
For smaller projects by eligible business customers, The Gas Company continues to offer incentives of up to $25,000 per customer per year through the Process Equipment Replacement Program and the Custom Process Improvement Program.
The Gas Company has also expanded its Express Efficiency Program, which offers rebates on more than a dozen types of new energy-efficient appliances and measures—including commercial boilers, process boilers and commercial pool heaters.
Some of the Express Efficiency business rebates are:
Greenhouse heat
curtains $.20 per square foot
(up to $50,000 per account per year)
Infrared film (greenhouse cover) $.03 per square foot
Pipe insulation up to $4 per linear foot
Tank insulation up to $4 per square foot
The Gas Company’s Commercial Food Service Equipment Rebate Program helps eligible restaurants and other foodservice businesses receive rebates for the following pieces of qualifying energy-efficient commercial cooking equipment:
Pressureless steamers $750
Fryers $500
Combination ovens $750
Convection ovens $500
Griddles $125
Additionally, The Gas Company is providing energy-efficiency incentives for the residential and commercial building industry. For eligible residential builders, The Advanced Home Program offers a variety of financial incentives for exceeding the latest Title 24 building standards. For eligible commercial buildings and industrial processes, The Gas Company’s Savings By Design Program offers design assistance and incentives for integrating energy efficiency into the designs of new buildings and major renovation projects. The incentives can be up to $50,000 per building for eligible design teams and up to $150,000 per building for eligible owners.
Also, at its Downey-based Energy Resource Center, The Gas Company offers seminars on a breadth of energy-related business topics—such as the fundamentals of compressed air systems and sustainable building design—as well as a variety of seminars on the foodservice business.
“We want our commercial customers to think of energy efficiency as a critical business issue and to look to The Gas Company for help in finding valuable solutions,” said Rick Morrow, vice president of customer service – major markets for The Gas Company. “Our rebates reduce the initial cost of energy-efficiency equipment, and customers save even more through reduced operating expenses. Energy efficiency also is good for our environment and conserves precious natural resources for the future.”
The Gas Company’s energy-efficiency programs in 2006-2008 have a goal of saving about 58 million therms of natural gas —enough energy to serve about 107,000 homes for a year.
All rebates and incentives are subject to change without notice and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funding is available. These programs are funded by California utility customers and administered by The Gas Company under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
